Privacy notice

We collect only what we need, we protect it carefully, and we never sell it. This notice explains exactly what happens to the information you give us.

1. Who we are

Lagelu Community Development Initiative (LCDI) is a community development initiative based in the Lagelu area of Oyo State, Nigeria. This notice applies to this website, our membership register, our member portal and the records we hold as an organisation. It is written in line with the principles of the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023.

2. Information we collect

  • Enquiries: the name, email address and message you submit through the contact form.
  • Membership: your name, telephone number, community or area, membership category, and anything you choose to add in the notes field.
  • Records we create: your membership status, decisions taken on your application, and the minutes of meetings you attend as a member.
  • Account activity: sign-in events and actions taken in the member portal, kept for the security of your account.
  • Newsletter: your email address, if you ask to receive our announcements.

We never ask for national identification numbers, bank details, passwords, medical or sensitive information, or information about other people — and we never collect it if it is offered unprompted.

3. Why we use it

  • To respond to your enquiries and answer questions about our work.
  • To process membership applications, verify applicants and issue membership cards.
  • To run the member portal, meetings, records and public reporting that make up our work.
  • To send official announcements and newsletters you have asked to receive.
  • To protect the security of the site, our systems and our members.
  • To meet legal, safety and safeguarding obligations where they apply.

Where our lawful basis is consent — for example newsletter subscriptions — you can withdraw that consent at any time without affecting anything else we hold.

4. How we protect your information

Security is a shared responsibility, and we treat it as part of our duty of care towards members, applicants and the children and families we serve.

  • Encrypted connections

Traffic between your device and this site is protected with TLS encryption, and forms are submitted over secure channels.

  • Controlled access

Records are visible only to the officers whose role requires them. Access is enforced on the server for every request, not just hidden in the interface.

  • Protected accounts

Member passwords are stored as salted hashes rather than readable text, so a stolen file cannot reveal a password.

  • Audit trails

Administrative actions are recorded with the officer, the time and the change, so decisions can always be traced.

  • Limited collection

We ask for the smallest amount of information needed to run the membership, and we keep nothing that has no further purpose.

  • Safeguarding first

Personal data about children and vulnerable members is handled under stricter review, and is never published without recorded consent.

5. Who we share it with

We do not sell, rent or trade personal information. We share it only when it is necessary and lawful:

  • With the officers and committee members who need it to carry out their role.
  • With service providers — such as our email and hosting providers — who process information on our instructions under confidentiality obligations.
  • With law enforcement, regulators or courts where we are legally required to disclose, and we will tell you unless prohibited from doing so.
  • With a member's next of kin where a genuine emergency requires it.

Nothing you submit here is published on this website. Public pages carry organisational information, approved announcements and verified project records — not the personal details of members, applicants or beneficiaries.

6. How long we keep it

We keep information only for as long as it serves the purpose it was collected for, or as long as the law requires us to keep it. Membership records are retained for the life of the membership and a reasonable period afterwards to meet accounting and governance duties. Enquiries that do not lead to a relationship are deleted once we have dealt with them. Newsletter subscriptions are kept until you unsubscribe.

7. Your rights

You may ask us at any time to:

  • Tell you what information we hold about you and provide a copy.
  • Correct anything that is inaccurate or incomplete.
  • Delete information we no longer have a lawful reason to keep.
  • Withdraw consent where consent is the basis on which we hold your information.
  • Object to a particular use of your information, or complain to the relevant authority.

Send any request to admin@lcdi.ng or call +234 816 012 3067. We will confirm receipt and respond within a reasonable timeframe.

8. Cookies and tracking

We use only the cookies and storage strictly needed to keep the site working and to keep you signed in to the member portal. We do not run advertising trackers, and we do not build behavioural profiles or sell data to third parties.

9. Children and safeguarding

LCDI works with children and young people in the Lagelu area. We collect as little as possible about any child, and never publish a photograph, name or personal detail without recorded consent from a parent or guardian and a safeguarding review. If you believe a child's information has been exposed or used improperly, contact us immediately on +234 816 012 3067.

10. Changes to this notice

We may update this notice as our services or our legal duties change. The version on this page is always the current one, and the review date is shown below.

Last reviewed: October 2026. If anything here is unclear, or you would prefer to speak with someone in person, call +234 816 012 3067 or email admin@lcdi.ng.
